The Obama’s ‘Most Admired’ and deserving!

Congratulations to our former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama for being named ‘Most Admired Woman’ of 2018.

Gallup posed the question “What woman that you have heard or read about, living today in any part of the world, do you admire most?”.  Beating out former First Lady and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton who has held the title 22 times.  Oprah Winfrey, Queen Elizabeth, Beyonce Knowles-Carter, and more have appeared on the list.

Mrs. Obama joins the annual most admired ranking, along with her husband, former President Barack Obama who has been named ‘Most Admired Man’ since 2008. This is no surprise as many still wish that they were in the White House today.

I must say that I have not been able to put down the bestselling memoir Becoming, and I look forward to meeting her on her book tour!

In all things, give THANKS!

Today I’m reminded of a scripture that my great-grandmother Amy L. Lattimore would always say from 1 Thessalonians 5:18.

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

I was blessed to have her in my life through young adulthood, until she passed away at 98. Since then I’ve tried to live a life full of gratitude.

Happy Thanksgiving wishes to you!

4 Ways to Spring Clean Your Business

The season has quickly come upon us and for entrepreneurs, executives and professionals, here are some tips for spring cleaning your business!

1st Quarter Assessment

Just as you have an annual performance review with your employer, it’s super valuable to self-assess your business performance. Set regular time throughout the year to highlight accomplishments, lessons learned, things you’d like to repeat, improve or stop doing. At the end of this quarter, review, refresh and renew.  Here are some questions to answer:

  1. What went really right this quarter?
  2. What 3 things should I continue this year?
  3. What have been my biggest challenges this quarter?
    1. What lessons did I learn from these challenges?
    2. What changes did I apply from these lessons?
  4. What should I do differently (or stop doing) next quarter to build upon my strengths and success?
  5. What are my top 3 goals for next quarter?

Outsource

Yes. I said outsource what you’re really not great at. There’s no sense in wrecking your brain or losing credibility because you’re trying to be all things to all people. Now’s the perfect time to let go of some services. Hire a Coach. Hire an Administrative Consultant. Hire a Bookeeper. Hire a Trainer.  If someone can do it better than you and they can help your business grow, it’s a WIN for you!

Clean, clean, clean!

A clean house makes everyone happy! At least in my home.  It gives more room for creativity and energy.  It’s like walking into a CLEAN, organized and bright Wal-Mart and instantly feeling refreshed and excited about your shopping spree.  This goes for business. Clean up your office. Literally, dust off your shelves. Wipe down your desk. Deep clean the carpet. Clean out your drawers, your file trays, your “filing” tray or drawer, your inbox, your electronic files – reorganize and delete the obsolete files and those pesky paper files  or what I call my “to read” pile, for goodness sake, read, scan or toss.

Audit

Take a moment to audit your website, organizational processes and social media pages. Does your website represent your brand and convey your message from your ‘welcome’ to your ‘checkout’?  Do your processes align?  What about your social presence? This is a good time to look at your business from the consumer or prospective consumer side. Shop with yourself and give yourself a rating as if you were shopping with Apple (insert a business favorite).  Are there some processes that can be streamlined? Can your bio be spruced up? Are you using enticing images and standout colors?

If there’s room for improvement and there always is, what a great time to make it. Don’t be afraid to make changes on your own either. As I shared earlier, as entrepreneurs, we can’t be all things to all people. That’s how burnout and rundown gets the best of us. INVEST in help!

Peace & Blessings,

Robin

Change… it ain’t all bad.

Who isn’t experiencing change these days?  As a new POTUS was ushered into the White House, that certainly was a major change event contributing to many emotions, feelings of loss and joy for example.  While I enjoyed the experiences that I participated in and experienced under the leadership of President Barack Obama, my range of emotions end in a joy that he and his family left an amazing legacy that many of will remember for the rest of our lives.

In my professional world, I experienced having one of the greatest leaders I’ve ever worked with transition to another organization, in another state. Insert angry-sad face. I didn’t know I would have so many emotions. After all, I had experienced being laid off before, after many years of dedicated service and receiving not so much as a handshake when I exited the building. I understood business to be business, jobs get eliminated and people come and go but the news of this great man leaving made me sad – but so excited and proud of him at the same time. My emotions were real nonetheless.  When you’re genuinely “good people” as a friend of mine says, your gift is meant to be shared with the world and you continue growing and pushing yourself to do great things.

And that’s why I quickly snapped back into reality.

The thing I appreciate most about change is that it PUSHES you towards GREATER.  It pulls you out of your relaxed and repetitive zone.  Walks you right into building new partnerships and relationships.  Jingles the keys to your future in your face.  Reminds you who YOU are and what you’re capable of.  Stretches you to brush up on or learn new skills.  Dares you to pursue your dreams or new opportunities.

You could easily experience a change in a negative way, especially when decisions are made that you have no control over, but what is within your control is how you choose to deal with the change and grow from it.  That great leader of mine coached and encouraged me in many ways that I’ll forever be grateful for. He probably never even realized it.  I also took the time to gain clarity and discover who I am and what I wanted at this stage in my life. As we grow, our expectations and desires change and grow as well.  Gaining clarity is an important exercise that I recommend we all take the time out to do. I put together a complimentary workbook to help you do this (or share with a loved one who may need this push).

Change… it’s necessary and it can be exactly what you make it. I hope you’re making the best of it in your life!

Peace & Blessings,

Robin

There’s NO SUCH THING as downtime

the-gift-of-time-1

Hey my Divine friends! Can you believe it? We made it through another Year! Well, we have three more days before we can fully count down to the New Year but we made it. I can hardly believe it. This time a year ago, I had a new baby. She’s almost a fully functioning 1-year-old toddler now (LOL). Walking, talking, making decisions, setting goals, doing her own thing. Unbelievable! During the last year in fact, I had zero downtime. I thought during maternity leave I’d have “time”. I thought that once she started walking, I’d have more “time”. Time for what? To relax? No. Time to do more. For a while, I had an attitude about what I thought I’d get to do with the gift of “time” but I’ve changed my mindset and I embrace and enjoy every moment. As we get ready to enter the New Year, I want to encourage you to embrace the true GIFT of TIME.

I can think of hundreds of things to do during so-called downtime..

  • get organized
  • clear the clutter (physically and mentally)
  • call the person you’ve been putting off or “meaning to call”
  • read that book or article you have sitting on the desk
  • write that chapter in the book you’ve been wanting to write
  • watch that webinar that’s sitting in your email (before it expires)
  • go on that date
  • take your mother and father out, separately
  • clean out your junk drawer at home or in your office
  • work on 1 goal, just 1
  • affirm yourself, then go affirm someone else who needs it
  • write your 1st blog
  • write your business plan
  • go volunteer your time somewhere
  • get a makeover
  • sign up for school or a fun class
  • go for a walk
  • go talk to someone if you need to – a coach, a mentor, a counselor, your Pastor. Stop holding it all in.
  • let go of a grudge – just let it go!

I think you get it. Friends, I just want you to make 2017 the year that you stop talking about it and start “being about it”. It’s not about making New Years resolutions. It’s simply about taking one step each day to transform your life. It doesn’t have to be a major move either. One simple step, each day.

The gift comes at the end of the day, week, month and finally at the end of the year. At the end of 2017, you get to celebrate YOU and all that you’ve accomplished. That’s the amazing part. No more beating yourself up about what you didn’t do. No time for should’ve, would’ve, could’ve’s.  Each day we have the GIFT of time. The GIFT of LIFE! Use each day to EMPOWER YOURSELF to achieve and succeed. I don’t know what success looks like to you, but I’m confident that it has a look and I can’t wait to see you looking GRAND!

Peace & Blessings and here’s to the HAPPIEST NEW YEAR!

Robin
