Think You Can

I woke up reminded that my thoughts become my reality.  I’m happy to say that I wake up feeling blessed, grateful and ready to conquer the world… most days.  On occasion, I don’t feel as well or at my best, like today even. Waking up with a sore throat, I just wanted to say no to the day and check-in to hotel bed with the covers pulled all the way up.  Days like today call for the extra nudge that says, “get up, we’ve got work to do”!  My nudges come from my children who always need me; usually it’s the bright and beautiful face of my 6 month old daughter who wakes up smiling which immediately helps me to change my course, or my 9 year old daughter who needs help packing a healthy lunch.  The meaningful work waiting on me at the great organization I work for or email alerts on my phone from my wonderful clients.  When I can’t seem to hear the alerts, the calls, the alarms or my husband, because I’ve tuned them all out, it’s the powerful voice of God saying “good morning daughter, get up and go daughter, you’re needed and we’ve got this”.  That’s when I rise and assure myself, that I’ve got this!  I’m alive! All of my limbs are in tact and my mind is sound.  Now I’m ready! Let’s go!

We all have those powers that be which motivate us to get moving forward every day – hopefully in a positive and productive direction and if you don’t, I want to encourage you to find your powers! It could be as simple as waking up with an attitude of gratitude and thinking about all of the reasons you’re grateful to be alive! You may have struggles, we all do, so embrace them, find the good in them and keep working to overcome them.   Most importantly, don’t pull the covers up over your life.  Life is a journey and will be as good or as great as you think it should be!

Pursuit of Excellence!

Excellence“Life is not easy for any of us.  But, what of that?  We must have perseverance and, above all, confidence in ourselves.  We must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained.” ~ Marie Curie, discoverer of Radium and double Nobel Prize winner

We’d ALL like to achieve excellence, personally and professionally right?  Perhaps, but for us to be excellent at something or even – just great – for that matter, we have to practice. Put in time and “do the work” as the amazingly profound Iyanla Vanzant often says.  If we want something bad enough, we’ll work at it, follow through on commitments and make decisions.  While many things can happen overnight, success typically does not (unless you win the lottery and for this, we have to play the game to win).

Preparation is essential.  The unstoppable, dynamic professional tennis athletes, sisters Venus and Serena Williams practiced their craft vigorously as children and they have gone on to win Olympic Gold medals and countless Championships – and are still winning! Practice made perfection for them.

Many of us get hung up on the first loss or rejection we encounter.  We take it personal as an attack against us. We get angry, frustrated and then quit.  What if we changed our thought process and our expectations to hit small milestones at a time instead of pressuring ourselves to hit the GOLD at the first shot? I’m not saying it’s impossible to achieve quick wins and I’m not saying to settle for mediocrity.  If we set ourselves up properly, anything is possible.  Getting intentional about our excellence and working at it consistently, not giving in to what might “look like” failure, will surely lead to success.

I personally had to get over my own fear of SUCCESS!  It sounds crazy but with each goal I set, while I felt they were ordained for me, I secretly prepared myself to be satisfied with where I was just in case I didn’t accomplish what I set out to.  I got over that and when I did, I started to speak into existence what I wanted to achieve; I’d then tie a date or timeframe to it and even a monetary benefit and then I would achieve it!  Even today still after hitting huge strides, I think to myself, “WOW!”

I want you to answer these questions of yourself – Am I doing what I love? What am I most proud of doing?  Am I great at it?  Am I getting paid for it?  If not, can I/do I want to get paid for it?  What is in my way? What is working for me?  This is not an exhaustive list of questions but a few to help get you started with setting attainable goals.  The goal here is to get you “writing down” what you want to achieve and how you’ll plan on doing so.

As the world continues to change, I encourage you to build your competence.  You don’t know what you don’t know… so, continue your learning!  Change your perspective on some things.  Replace your “I can’t”, “I didn’t”, “I don’t”, “I’m not sure”, “what if they don’t like me”, “what have I got myself into” with confidence!  If you don’t believe it for yourself, no one else will.  Affirm yourself daily with “I can”, “I will”, “I do”, “I am”.  You have what it takes within you.  Accept it. Embrace it and work it.

Excellence is within you!

Value Added

Are you overwhelmed, trying to do it all and if so, is it because you’re a control freak who thinks “no one can do it better” than you or is it that you’re just so busy that you don’t even have time to seek the professional help you need?

Hand writing So Many Things in To Do List with red marker isolated on white.

I work with clients who used to fit in these categories until they decided to let go and trust an expert (pats self on the back), an executive administrative expert who excels in the areas they weren’t so good at or simply didn’t want to be doing.  I am trained to make people’s lives a little bit easier to give them the freedom to make the executive decisions, take business trips and not worry or sit back and relax while their businesses continue to operate.  I am virtually connected to my clients and behind the scenes, miles and miles away, I get the job done.

A virtual assistant (typically abbreviated to VA, also called a virtual office assistant) is generally self-employed and provides professional administrative, technical, or creative (social) assistance to clients remotely from a home office.

If you’re unsure about how a VA can help you, Nina Feldman came up with a great resource for business owners, professionals and all around busy people! 101-ways-to-use-a-virtual-assistant!

Is your business growing or are you so bogged down in the day to day details that you can’t get ahead or are you a busy professional or parent who simply needs help?  You are not alone.  Help is literally at your finger tips.

Time for a Self Check

As the CEO of your life, it’s time for a performance review/progress check in.  Yes, it’s August now – summer is winding down & pretty soon we’ll be making our vows to the New Year!  I don’t know about you, but I have quite a few things that still need to get done, THIS YEAR.  I got off to a great start, and then I started getting busy with life and all-things-not-on-my-OWN-agenda.  Well my friends, a SHIFT is happening.  Things are lining up and happening according to God’s Will and I’m so grateful.

I didn’t get to this stage in my life alone.  A critical part of my growth and development is attributed to my “advisors”.  GOD being 1st, then my other advisors who I go to for advice and counsel.  Anyone in business or seeking improvement should have an advisor or two – a trusted and QUALIFIED coach or accountability partner.

Back to my check in! As I’m preparing to finish this year out strong, I wanted to share my top 5 values that I use to assess and measure myself and goals against.  Feel free to use!

  1. Spiritually – are you connected and staying plugged in to your higher power source? I firmly believe that having my relationship in order with God, helps me have all of my other relationships and endeavors in order. My the-best-project-that-you-will-ever-work-on-is-youentire life changed when I put God at the head of my life.  Believe in something greater than yourself and you will likely be at your greatest self!
  2. Professionally – Are you where you want to be or do you just work to pay the bills? Would an updated resume push you to upgrade your job/career? How about finishing your business plan? Is what you’re doing having an impact on the greater good? Community?
  3. Educationally – Are you stimulating your mind? Have you learned anything new? Could you better market your talents by taking a course? Don’t get left behind! The world is changing. So should you.  I’m a lifelong learner and proud of it!
  4. Health – Have you had your wellness exam this year? Mammogram? Have you incorporated exercise into your day? Did you change your eating habits? What can you start doing now to feel better? I’m so glad I have taken charge of my health. I’m still in my 30’s and just had a beautiful new baby girl. I want to be around for HER grandchildren. Being healthy is a daily choice! I’m all in.
  5. Home Front – Last but not least…Have you made more QUALITY time for FAMILY? Family is WHY I get up and hustle every day. They keep me grounded and motivated to be the very best woman I can be and they love me even when I’m at my lowest self.  Next to my faith, family is everything. So, take care of your loved ones.  Go on a weekend getaway. Schedule a weekly family night – with no electronic devices allowed. (I’m stealing this one for our household). Incorporate a health goal here and get the family involved on a fun outdoor outing. Whatever you do, make memories!

Mountains can still be moved in the next 147 days if we just dedicate a little bit of time every day to pursue our own growth. Make a plan. Commit. Organize. Work. Check in. Check off. Then start all over.

Great blessings, peace & love.

So what?!

Lately, I’ve used the word “purpose” a lot, asking some people what’s the purpose for their actions, their existence and more so, reflecting on mine.  I don’t have anything special to say today but to encourage you to get clear about your purpose. Why are you here? Why do you think you get to wake up each morning and do the things you do?  Is it for your children, your family, community? Are you helping, hurting or simply doing nothing?  It took me years to figure out mine so I’m not here to say who, what or how it should be.  I just know that life is bigger than me.  It’s not about the job I do every day in health care or those that I help through my business.  My official order is to serve.  With so many things happening in the world, good, bad and indifferent, there are more than enough causes to get involved in and many vulnerable people to advocate for.

God has given us all a special gift (or gifts) and a voice to use to lift up the world.  Some of us get paid for our gifts and some don’t (or choose not to).  I feel blessed to have a few talents, with one being what led me to start my own business, Divine Executive Solutions LLC and also which led to my 15+ years of supporting CEO’s in large not-for-profit organizations (ultimately my entire career).  I’m administratively and operationally, business savvy. In a nutshell, I know how to organize, orchestrate, design, define, support, teach and lead and I also have an altruistic desire to help others (thus, my path in criminal justice, social services and health care).  While I mostly get paid for this gift, I find myself more often than not, helping many, free of charge.  I want to do more.  In the end, I hope to leave people better off after having come in contact with me.

So…my question is, are you using your gift/s?

Great blessings, peace & love!

~Robin
